He also has held other community positions in his community, serving as the inaugural Co-Chairperson of the Rahway Social Justice Commission and as a Commissioner of the City of Rahway’s Planning Board. Additionally, Brooks was a member of the Union County Advisory Board for the Status of Minorities.
Brooks' commitment to public service began after graduating from Seton Hall University in 2008, where he worked for the Barack Obama presidential campaign as a field organizer. This experience fueled his passion for people and for service, leading him to work in the non-profit, political, and technology fields. However, it was his work in his hometown of Rahway that he found most rewarding.
Brooks served as a long-term substitute teacher and safety officer at Rahway High School, where he discovered the importance of speaking empowerment and guidance into the youth. He subsequently became the city's first Coalition Coordinator for the Rahway Prevention Coalition, where he served as a community advocate for safer environments for the youth while successfully implementing active consent surveys to middle school and high school-aged children necessary to address the alarming trend of underage drinking and illegal underage marijuana use.
Brooks is also a passionate advocate for second changes as he has regularly organized clinics for expungements. Brooks has also lead the charge influencing local housing policies to make the city a more equitable place to live. He looks forward to championing positions and ideas that will make the city a safe place for its youth and a destination city for all.
As a Real Estate and Business Development professional, Brooks has provided access to nearly $100,000 in Rental Assistance to Rahway residents through the county as a Rental Community Property Manager.
He is married to Lian Brooks of Rahway, NJ, and they reside in Rahway's 3rd Ward.
Brooks is currently the youngest member of Rahway the City Council. He is committed to making Rahway a more equitable, fair and safe place to live.
